ARE YOU A GOOD PERSON?

Are You Good Enough To Go To Heaven?

Have you ever told a lie?
Have you ever stolen anything or taken something that didn't belong to you?
Have you ever looked at a woman (man) with lustful thoughts?
Have you ever said a curse word or taken God's name in vain?
Have you ever been angry with someone and thought a hateful thought?
Have you ever seen something someone else owned and desired it even though you didn't need it?

If one lies, he is called a liar, because he IS a liar: "Thou shalt not bear false witness" (Exodus 20:16)
If one steals, he is called a thief, because he IS a thief: "Thou shalt not steal." (Exodus 20:15)
If one looks at a woman with lust, he is called an adulterer, because he IS an adulterer: Jesus said, "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." (Matthew 5:27,28): "Thou shalt not commit adultery." (Exodus 20:14)
If one uses profanity or takes God's name in vain, he is called a blasphemer, because he IS a blasphemer: "shun profane and vain babblings" (II Timothy 2:16): "Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain." (Exodus 20:7)
If one is angry at another and thinks a hateful thought, he is called a murderer, because he IS a murderer: "Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer" (I John 3:15): "Thou shalt not kill." (Exodus 20:13)
If one desires (without a true need) something that belongs to another, he is called covetous, because he IS coveting: "Thou shalt not covet" (Exodus 20:17)

If you admit to having ever committed any one of the above offences you have broken the laws of God. And when God judges you on judgement day you will be found to be a lying, adulterous, covetous, blaspheming, murderous thief: "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." (James 2:10). You will be found guilty as charged because God is a just and righteous judge. If you think God will not judge you for any of those sins just because you may have only committed them in the past, or because you are now doing good deeds to try to make up for the bad ones, you are terribly mistaken. You may say, "I have never committed any egregious sins so I won't be judged with the 'big' sinners." You are wrong my friend, because Jesus said, "...those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:4,5). You may say, "I don't believe I'm sinning so I don't need to repent." You are wrong again my friend, because "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." (I John 1:8). Jesus said, "He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day." (John 12:48). If you don't believe that you will be judged according to the scriptures, it is irrelevant. I don't believe in paying taxes, but if I don't pay them I'll be in trouble with the laws of man. How much more accountable shall we be for breaking the laws of God?

If a bank robber stands before a judge and says, "Your Honor, I only robbed one bank, and since then I have dedicated my life to doing good works; so I think you should not judge me according to the law and should just forget about the robbery I committed." If he is a just judge he must find the bank robber guilty and pass the sentence prescribed by the law. If a murderer stands before a judge and says, "Your Honor, I know I committed that murder, but I'm truly sorry now; so you should not hold me accountable." Again, if he is a just judge he must find the murderer guilty as charged. How much more just is God, the righteous judge of the universe, for judging us according to the laws of God?

The Bible says that "All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes;" and "Every way of a man is right in his own eyes:" (Prov. 16:2; 21:2). The Bible also says that man's "heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked:" and "He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool:" (Jer. 17:9; Prov. 28:26). Jesus said that "out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man." (Mark 7:21-23). Pride and self-righteousness will cause most men to "proclaim every one his own goodness" (Prov. 20:6). "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." (Prov. 16:25). Jesus said, "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." (Mat 7:13,14)

The Bible says that fornicators and adulterers "shall not inherit the kingdom of God"; and "all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone" (I Cor. 6:9,10; Gal. 5:19-21; Rev. 21:8). The bad news is that man is lost and is on his way to hell to suffer the consequences of his sins, separated from God for all eternity. But the good news is that God has made a way for man to be forgiven: "repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ." (Acts 20:21). "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him [Jesus Christ] the iniquity of us all." (Isaiah 53:6). "Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us:" (1 John 3:16).

Not until we understand that "the wages of sin is death" (Rom. 6:23), and that "all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23), and that "we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags" (Isa. 64:6), and that no amount of good deeds on our part can satisfy the justice of God, and that from the fall of man all men by their nature are enemies of God (Gen. 3; Rom. 5:12; Eph. 2:12; 4:18), and that "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3), not until we understand this Biblical truth can we come to the saving knowledge of the truth, how that "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son", made "in the likeness of sinful flesh", "made of a woman, made under the law," who lived a sinless life and took the wages of our sins upon himself, the punishment that was due each and every one of us, and died in our place on the cross, "that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16; Rom. 8:3; Gal. 4:4; Heb. 4:15).

This is "the grace of God that bringeth salvation" that "hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;" "But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost" (Titus 2:11-13; 3:4,5). "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Eph. 2:8,9)

No church, no lodge, no good works can save you. "I am the way, the truth, and the life:" said Jesus, "no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6). "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:12). After "the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe." (I Cor. 1:21). "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." (I Cor. 2:14). "Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be." (Rom. 8:7). Jesus said, "Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." (Matt. 18:3). "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:" (I Pet. 5:6).

"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Pet. 3:9). Jesus said that "except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:3). "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out" (Acts 3:19). If we confess our sins to the "one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus", and forsake our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (Prov. 28:13; I John 1:9; I Tim. 2:5).

The Lord said, "from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh." (Ezk. 36:25,26). When we repent of our sins and believe the gospel of our salvation, God gives us "the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost", "the Spirit of truth", to "guide" us "into all truth" by "the holy scriptures", "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever." (John 14:26; 15:26; 16:13; Eph. 1:13; II Tim. 3:15; I Peter 1:23). He gives us a new spirit and a new heart that convicts our conscience of sin. "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (II Cor. 5:17)

Jesus Christ died for your sins so that you wouldn't have to die for them. To find out how to become a born again child of the true and living God and spend eternity in heaven, see "WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?" If you haven't already repented of your sins and turned from them and placed your faith and trust in the finished sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, why not do so today? for "ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." (Prov. 28:13; Mark 1:15; Luke 13:3,5; 24:47; Acts 3:19; 17:30; II Pet. 3:9; James 4:14)
