What Must I Do To Be Saved?

“And the keeper of the prison...said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they
said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
...And ... the same hour of the night ... was baptized, he and all his, straightway.”

(Acts 16:27-33)

Salvation is simple, but it is not cheap. It cost Jesus Christ everything so that salvation could be offered to us freely. God has made His salvation available on the basis of a personal faith which even a child can exercise. Everyone is reduced to the same level in the eyes of God, and all must come to Him on the same terms (Romans 3:9,10; Galatians 3:22). You are lost and need to be rescued, as “the whole world lieth in wickedness” (I John 5:19). Only through the sinless life, death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ can we be reconciled to God (II Cor. 5:17-19). “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Only the Lord Jesus Christ is worthy of this glory! “Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world” (Galatians 1:4). “But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men” (Philippians 2:7) “in the likeness of sinful flesh” (Romans 8:3) and “was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15). “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.” (Isaiah 53:4).

Jesus said, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” (John 3:3-7): “not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” (I Peter 1:23). “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63). “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” (I Corinthians 2:14). “Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” (Matt. 18:3).

You cannot save yourself. “For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.” (Ecclesiastes 7:20). “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags” in the sight of God (Isaiah 64:6), and “every man at his best state is altogether vanity.” (Psalms 39:5). No church, no lodge, no good works can save you. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8,9). “For by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.” (Galatians 2:16). Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6). “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12). “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost” (Titus 3:5).

You must accept His gift of salvation. “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6). “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” (John 3:16,17). “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.... For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:9,13).

The first message that Jesus preached was, “repent ye, and believe the gospel.” (Mark 1:15). To “repent” simply means to confess your sins with sincere remorse and forsake them (Proverbs 28:13). To “believe the gospel” simply means to believe God's word, the Holy Bible. The Lord “is longsuffering to us–ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (II Peter 3:9). Jesus said, “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”[and “all have sinned”] (Luke 5:32; Rom. 3:23). “To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins” (Acts 26:18). “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” (Proverbs 28:13). “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19). The Lord said, “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. ” (Ezekiel 36:26).

Let Jesus save you this very moment. Let Christ change your carnal sinful nature into a spiritual child of God. God's power will save you, keep you saved, and enable you to live a new victorious Christian life: “for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Hebrews 13:5). “I will not leave you comfortless:” said Jesus, “I will come to you.... my peace I give unto you: not as

the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:18,27). “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (II Timothy 1:7). “Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” (John 14:17). “We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.” (I John 5:18). “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” (I John 2:1,2). “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” (Proverbs 24:16). Do not trust your feelings. They change. Stand on God's promises (his words). They never change. “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” (Hebrews 13:8). “For I am the LORD, I change not” (Malachi 3:6). “My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.” (Psalms 89:34). “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” (Matthew 24:35).

You can be sure you are saved. “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish,” exclaimed Jesus, “neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” (John 10:28). “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” (I John 5:11-13). “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” (I Cor. 1:18): “the gospel of Christ... is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth” (Romans 1:16). “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” (Romans 8:16). “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” (I John 5:4). “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” (Philippians 1:6) “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:25). “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;” (I Timothy 2:5). “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (I John 1:9). “For the wages of sin is death (damnation —Dan. 12:2; Matt. 25:46; John 3:17-19; Rev. 14:11; 20:10); but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23).

He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
He came unto his own, and his own received him not. (John 1:10,11)

If you have not received the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior
(there is no other -Isaiah 43:11; Hosea 13:4; Mark 12:29;
John 4:42;10:30;14:6; Acts 4:12; Ephesians 4:5; Philippians 2:11)

and would like to, then pray this prayer from your heart:

Heavenly Father, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I come to you with a humble and broken spirit and a broken and contrite heart. I know that I am a lost sinner; and I confess my sins to you, O Lord, and I forsake them. Lord Jesus, I confess with my mouth that you alone are the Lord: and I believe in my heart that you died in my place on the cross and shed your blood for my sins and for the sins of the world; and that you rose from the dead to give me everlasting life; and that you are alive forever more. I believe that you are the way, the truth and the life, and that there is no other way to heaven. I believe that Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and men. I believe that whosoever calls on your name shall be saved. I call on your name at this very moment, O Lord, and I accept Jesus Christ's shed blood and death on the cross at Calvary as the one and only sacrifice for my sins. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. I ask you to come into my heart right now, fill me with the Holy Ghost, and make me a new creature in your image. By faith I receive your word, and I ask you to lead me by your Spirit into all truth from this day forward.

If you pray this prayer with all of your heart, “calling on the name of the Lord,” being “baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,” then you “are saved” (Acts 2:38; 16:27-33; 22:16; I Cor. 1:18). Believe it! Confess it! “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Rom. 10:10) Give Jesus all of the glory, for he alone paid the price that no man could pay. Go ahead and praise his holy name. Magnify him. Worship him. Love him. For he loves you! And now that you are a child of God by grace through faith (Eph. 2:8,9), “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” (I Pet. 2:2) and “grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (II Pet. 3:18); read and study God's Word (the KJV Holy Bible) daily; pray without ceasing; “denying ungodliness and worldly lusts,” “live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;” (I Thess. 5:17; Titus 2:12) deny yourself, take up your cross daily, and follow Jesus whithersoever he goeth, in spirit, in deed and in truth all the days of your life!
